Conference Program inc. Speaker Biographies

The conference was themed around Contemporary collecting and communication focused on museums, galleries, collections and communities. It was conceived as a statewide opportunity, 4 years on from the first combined MAQ/RGAQ conference held in Mooloolaba 2003.

The Conference explored the following themes:

Pros and cons of convergence and collaborations for cultural/heritage precincts, museums, galleries, libraries, archives, performance spaces, interpretation/visitor centres, arts incubators and other non-collecting organisations
The sector’s contribution to public debate and quality of life
Beyond visitor numbers: Public Programs & Quality… local, national and international work at the intersection of public programs, audience development and evaluation frameworks including key performance indicators
Cross disciplinary centres of learning and engagement
Impact of new technologies
Collecting for the future now

The Conference provided a full program of master classes, skill sessions and keynote speakers over two and a half days, and presented an excellent opportunity to explore the topical issues in museum and gallery practice, network with colleagues from around the state, while enjoying a ‘sea change’.
