Miriam Vale Shire Museum

Did you know...
Did you know that the Miriam Vale Shire Museum at Agnes Water has a large display on James Cook, Joseph Banks and the 'Endeavour'? It includes copies of Cook's charts from the British Museum and a display of the plants Banks discovered when he visited.

The Journals of Captain James Cook

Copies of Volume 1 and 2, published in 1955 and 1961.
These books contain the journal entries of Cook, who first landed in this area in Queensland. The area is known as the 'birthplace of Queensland'.

Did you know that the Museum has a display of Aboriginal Artefacts including spears, pointing bones, rock tools and bark paintings?

Brass Telescope in its original Wooden Box

This telescope belonged to the first lighthouse keeper in Queensland. Thomas Rooksby was lightkeeper at Bustard Head LIghthouse for 34 years.

An early 1900 Wall Mounted Telephone

This telephone was used in conjunction with a telephone exchange. It is part of a collection of telephones used during the last century.
