Join the celebrations of Museums Alight! 2010 by participating in a Wine and Nibbles Open Night at the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology, which includes a special tour of the Museum.
The tour will guide visitors through 500,000 years of world history, pointing out important artefacts in the Museum collection that highlight significant milestones in the development of peoples and civilization as we know it. Visitors can learn about the cave artists of prehistoric Europe, see shards of pottery made by Neolithic farmers, hear about the might of the Roman Empire, the remarkable developments and exploration of the Middle Ages, through to the Industrialisation and rise of the British Empire. Once completing this timeline of the development of Europe, visitors will visit displays from many of the Ancient civilisations of Egypt, Mesopotamia and Asia. A small but special exhibition of ear ornaments from Borneo will be on display for this celebratory event only. Come and enjoy a whirlwind tour of the world and its remarkable history and art.
