International Museum Day - 18 May 2012

Calling all Queensland Museums and Galleries
Do you want your politicians to know how valuable you are?

The worldwide community of museums will celebrate the 35th anniversary of International Museum Day around 18 May 2012. This year’s theme is: Museums in a Changing World. New challenges, new inspirations.

For International Museum Day 2012, Museum and Gallery Services Queensland (M&GSQ) encourages all Queensland museums and galleries to write a letter to their recently elected state member and their local mayor and/or councillor inviting them to visit. This is an opportunity to tell your local and state representatives of your value to the community and to lobby for what you need for a sustainable future.

M&GSQ has drafted a letter of invitation, which is available below for you to download and adapt. Also available to download is a list of Queensland Members of Parliament with contact details and a sample letter from the Abbey Museum of Art & Archaeology.

A list of elected mayors and councillors will be available shortly. Results are being declared progressively on http://www.ecq.qld.gov.au/elections/local/LG2012/groupIndex.html or you may prefer to ring your Council to obtain an update on your local government election results.

If you have any queries, please feel free to call 3215 0820.
